Making Modules

Create various modules, with set configuration options, to be incorporated into a content management system. Allow administrators to easily create or edit pages on the site without submitting a request to the Development team.

OBJECTIVE

Led the internal workshop to discover module types. Designed modules and established configuration options. Created documentation on module requirements. Tested and provided feedback for the frontend and backend set up. Shared the CMS system and process to the cross functional team.

OVERVIEW

With multiple campaign launches happening within weeks of one another, we needed to establish an approach for building multiple, unique landing pages in a short period of time. To tackle this challenge, we decided to use a content management system to allow administrators to create their own landing pages. If successful, administrators could build pages whenever necessary without needing to request help from the Development team.

The demand for new pages created the need for an efficient process.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

The goal of the workshop was to understand what elements each team envisioned in this tool. To do this, we printed and cut out elements from popular websites (e.g. Nike, Victoria Secret, MeUndies). We then asked each team to build their own landing page for upcoming campaigns using the elements provided.

Having each team explain why they chose certain elements influenced the type of modules incorporated into the tool. Through conducting the workshop, I was able to determine which modules were essential and, therefore, priority when implementing.

To start, I decided to set up workshops with our Merchandising & Creative teams.

Once the workshops were complete, I designed wireframes of the various modules, wrote out requirements and interaction details. I presented these modules to stakeholders, demonstrating how these elements could be used in upcoming campaigns. After approval, I assisted the Development team through implementation, answering questions about screen displays & interactions.

When the modules were developed, I worked closely with the cross functional teams to discuss the strategy & page structure for upcoming campaigns. This also required training administrators on how to plug in content through the tool.

THE RESULTS

Since launching this content management system, we’ve expanded the customization options for various site elements. Besides modules, admins can now build or edit promotional banners, size guides and navigation updates all through this system. Within the past 3 years, administrators have published numerous landing pages for campaign launches. This process has reduced the workload for our development team while giving admins the freedom to create site experiences quickly. As we find new instances for customizations, we continue to evolve the CMS platform and expedite the administrative process.

Customization is key.
